Chapter 26 - Pressure from Steve

There are too many stories already etched in history of Steve’s legendary antics. He will go down as one of the most impetuous CEO’s ever to be as successful as he was. For anyone who has encountered his wrath, or tirades, or some other negative reaction, they don’t need any additional examples. And, to a fault, Steve was pretty consistent throughout his career.

I saw this numerous times as we visited the venerable firms on Wall St. and again at AT&T Bell Labs, where customer executives were treated as if they were minions. Yet, when he met an expert with bone fides expertise, one whose credentials couldn’t be questioned even by Steve, he sometimes fawned. Such was the case on our visit to Bell Labs on December 11, 1989.
